Question: How has E Co. been involved in capacity building and learning?

In the last five years, E Co. has been more and more involved in capacity building and training. We want to help organisations and individuals who are working to mitigate climate change or to help their countries adapt to climate change to design better projects and to increase the chances of their projects being funded.

Since 2014, we have had a partnership with the University of Twente in the Netherlands and the UNEP DTU partnership in Copenhagen to run an annual course on ‘Formulating Proposals for Low Carbon, Climate Resilient Development’. We have also provided bespoke training events and workshops in a range of countries including Mozambique, Uganda, Indonesia, Guatemala, Morocco and others.

Participants in these events have included government officials, people working for or with United Nations agencies and programmes, the financial sector and consultants. The aim of our capacity building is to help people understand the process of project design and to start applying it to their own project ideas.

All our events are very interactive, with a minimum of presentation and lots of time spent working with participants to develop their own skills. We hope that this kind of training will make it possible for people to have a stronger role in setting priorities and deciding what will happen, which projects will be implemented, in their own countries and regions.
