About the Industrial Energy Efficiency Project

In this episode, guest speaker Alfred Hartzenburg tells the story of the Industrial Energy Efficiency Project in South Africa, its impact, achievements in energy savings and progress over the years. The IEE Project was launched in South Africa in 2010, after some of the most severe rolling blackouts the country had faced. It was launched by the South African government and UNIDO, who E Co. Senior consultant Ben Bartle worked with on the design of the second phase of the project, in 2015.

Comments by E Co. Senior consultant Ben Bartle:

“I had the privilege of working with Alf and his team at the National Cleaner Production Centre in 2015 to design the Global Environment Facility project document, support stakeholder consultations in South Africa and develop a number of studies and supporting annexes which were successfully validated in a thorough workshop series.

This was my very first funded project that I worked on at  E Co. after joining in 2014. The project has since achieved some remarkable results over its implementation period and it is shortly coming to an end.”
