Jessica Ginting

In a nutshell, tell us about yourself.

I grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia. I am primarily a writer, with experience in authoring and editing fiction, nonfiction and poetry. I’ve also been involved in translating works from Indonesian to English.

I run a lot of projects; creating a lot of online content, working with media and handling marketing and communication gave me the skills to work at E Co.

What are you most proud of?

Recently, I started a new comic project called ROSANA! I created an original superhero and I get to work with an amazing, global team of Indonesian artists.

Nothing beats seeing your own superhero come to life.

What are your loves?

Biodiversity, iced lattes, disco, old school jazz, dresses that make people’s heads turn, beautiful animation, plot twists in movies, seeing women succeed.

Who or what do you most admire?

I admire people who shake the table a little bit in the circles they’re in: their professional industry, their local community—people who fight for the rights of a disenfranchised collective, I would want to stand behind them.

What’s the best holiday you’ve ever had?

I spent one summer in Greece as a volunteer to work with sea turtles. We spent late nights walking on stretches of sand to see the turtles come out from sea and lay their eggs. We did all these technical stuff, like tagging them, marking their nests, recording measurements and counting eggs, but it was about the magic, in the end.

If you were world leader, what’s the first thing you would change?

Restoring land rights for indigenous peoples.
