Marion Denantes

In a nutshell, tell us about yourself.

I joined E Co. in 2014. This is the longest I have ever worked for one company, which might be because the job is fully in line with my convictions. I have extensive experience in project evaluation and it is astonishing that most projects end up facing issues of long-term sustainability. At E Co., we design comprehensive projects that are based on an in-depth understanding of the local context and that address the main market barriers so that once implemented, they have truly sustainable long-term impacts. Working at E Co. is also a great opportunity to work on a diversity of projects in both mitigation and adaptation sectors for different clients all over the world.

What are you most proud of?

The only possible answer to that is my children.

What are your loves?

I love seeing how people get together and mobilise in the fight against climate change and seeing the great green initiatives going on all over the world to make it a better place. This puts me in a positive mood.

What are your hates?

Climate change skeptics, lobbyists from polluting industries, and mass tourism.

What drives you to do this kind of work?

My first job experience was at UNEP in Nairobi, Kenya, during which I met Kofi Annan, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations. He really inspired me and meeting him was a turning point that led me to devote my professional life to helping the developing world in their fight against climate change. I could not do anything else.

How do you see the world in 25 years?

I would like to see a better future for our children, free of fossil fuels and plastic…

What is the hardest thing you’ve done recently?

I walked for 100km over 27 hours for Oxfam.
